Queenstown,New Zealand

William Gilbert Rees,along with fellow explorer Nicholas Von Tunzelman, were the first Europeans to settle the area. Rees was in search of pastoral land, and after an initial visit returne in 1860 to establish a high country farm in the location of Queenstown's current town centre. However the Rees' farming lifestyle was to be short-lived. In 1862 gold was discoverd in the Arrow River, a short distance from Queenstown.

Rising in the Himalayas and emptying into the Bay of bengal, it drains a quarter of the territory of india, while its basin supports hundreds of millions of people. T he Gangetic Plain, across which it flows, is the heartland of the region known as Hindustan and has been the cradle of successive civilizations from the mauryan empire of Ashoka in the 3rd century bce down to the Mughal Empire, founded in the 16th century.
